The fifth-generation BMW e-drive is BMW’s next-generation electricized drive train, which consists of battery modules, high-voltage batteries, and electric motors, and is designed as an expandable modular model and can be applied flexibly depending on the structure or production area of the vehicle.

The fifth generation e-drive, which combines BMW’s latest technologies, will be produced at the electric vehicle model production capability center in the ding-golfing plant. Founded last year to increase the efficiency of the production of electric vehicle models, the center has about 1,400 employees, with about 1900 employees scheduled to be put into production by the end of this year.

BMW Group is investing more than 500 million euros (about 680 billion won) in electricity drive production at its ding-golfing plant from 2020 to 2022, and is planning to produce more than 500,000 electric drives every year starting next year.

“By 2030, more than half of BMW’s vehicles will be electric models,” said Michael Nicoláides, senior vice president of BMW Engine and Electric Drive Trains.

BMW Group started producing battery parts at Regensburg plant and Leipzig plant in April and May, respectively, in line with the growing demand for electric vehicles, and is also producing electric drive housings at Lanzhut plant and Steyer plant.

Gen. 5 BMW e-drive models iX and i4 will be mass-produced at Dingolping and Munich plants, and will be released in Korea in November this year and early next year, respectively.
